Join us Saturday, August 16th from 10:30-11:30AM to learn all about the culinary, cosmetic and landscape uses of these long-revered plants with Rebecca Byrom. She will be bringing a few herbal crafts including lavender wands, dream pillows and herbal wreaths to inspire, with some of her favorite recipes to share!
Born and raised in rural Illinois, Rebecca’s love of nature and gardening began in childhood. She was influenced by her father, a passionate naturalist and organic gardener, and by her mother whose passions were art, music and nutrition.
After majoring in French and art history at the University of Illinois, Rebecca later studied horticulture and design after moving to California. Having lived in California 50 years, she has learned the joys and challenges of gardening in a Mediterranean climate, and out of her interest and life experiences, she “grew a business”, Something Special With Herbs, which began in 1992. For 12 years Rebecca participated in the Danville Farmers’ Market selling herbal wreaths, fresh herb and flower arrangements and lavender wands.
Rebecca’s business is focused on herbs, their cultivation and many uses, and she has enjoyed giving many presentations to area garden clubs and also programs and workshops at her home—which always include a tea or lunch featuring herbs.
For over 40 years Rebecca has been active in several garden clubs and her other passions include art, music writing, traveling and her family! She has been involved in various volunteer activities and served for many years as a Stephen Minister at SRVUMC and as a grief counselor at the Contra Costa Crisis Center. Proceeds of her business now are donated to charities in memory of her daughter Cynthia and to her youngest grandson Alex. On July 22 2017 Rebecca parachuted with the Patriot Parachute Team in San Diego raising over $31,000 for children’s cancer research—you can view this by googling Grandma Bee Jump.
